In 1974 the Falvo brothers, owners of the vineyards in the district of Cortona, took over Avignonesi and refounded it investing greatly in viniculture, selecting the local varieties and introducing classical ones such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir. Today, Avignonesi consists of four wine-producing estates: Le Capezzine, I Poggetti, La Selva and La Lombarda. In total they comprise 225 hectares of open ground, 109 ha of vineyards and 3 ha of olive groves. The Rosso di Montepulciano is made from 85% Prugnolo Gentile, 10% Canaiolo Nero, 5% Mammolo grapes. It is aged in oak barrels for 4 months and refinedt in bottles for 3 months. Alcohol content: 12% vol. Characteristics: brilliant ruby red color, delicate aroma, with a distinct hint of ripe fruits, nice balanced taste, harmonious and long lasting. Serving suggestions: very versatile wine, made for the daily consumption, can be paired with almost everything but not overly involved meals |
